Split is the largest city in Dalmatia, the second largest city in Croatia (the wider metropolitan area has more than 200,000 inhabitants), Croatia's second largest port and third port on the Mediterranean by the number of passengers. It is the administrative center of Split-Dalmatia County and its catchment areas of three southern Croatian counties (formerly Community Split municipalities), and part of Herzegovina and Bosnia.
In the port of Lora on the north side of the peninsula is the seat of the Croatian Navy. The city center is antique from 4th century Diocletian Palace (UNESCO protection since 1979. Year), which is a unique example in the world.
